We had planned a 60min plus one lap event but the looks on the faces of the competitors was enough to tell me to shorted the event, its a challenging course, we wanted a challenge. In my head and only having ridden it a few times before the big day I was worried it would be too easy. A big thank you to the encouragement of Brian Nevin and help of all the volunteers to help make the race a success. Gary from LLBIKES brought down a floatilla of Giant Mtbs so all could take part. A great turn out from Wccc and Clare Crusaders as well
The action:
Gary Mac looked to be in controll for all the race, remaining calm in the opening laps, watching Paul Dunne and others battle it, waiting on Brian to get over his crash before making his move on the backside steep hill – a heart breaker – moving into the lead before the pinch point and little path taking your through the trees into another steep hill before slaloming down into the tight right hander. Gary showed his skilled and gently put time into his competitors on each lap. Almost using the back markers as his race as he went on to take a great win
Paul Dunne and co made a long trip from Ballina co Mayo to take part and we are great ful he did, he proved a tuff competitor. Dogging out his second place with real panache ahead of friend and training mate Bernard Tuomey, Clyde Gaffney, Brian Nevin, Jack O Shea and all put in great battling performances, getting a great work out and having some winter fun
